The history
In the tradition of Champagne, wines that were blended for greater sweetness were customarily described as “rich”. Propelling this tradition and known for its audacity, the house introduced, in 2015, Veuve Clicquot Rich, a new playful drinking experience, created for mixology. By adding ice cubes and selected ingredients to Rich, Veuve Clicquot invites everyone to customize their drinking experience and enjoy even more freshness from their favorite Champagne. Rich is a true testimony to the House’s heritage and an expression, among others, of its consistent, daring audacity through time.
The cuvée
The blend comprises 40 to 45% Pinot Noir, pillar of the Veuve Clicquot winemaking style, 40% Meunier that brings fruitiness and roundness, and finally, 15% Chardonnay that completes the blend, contributing to the extra freshness and silkiness. Like other non-vintage champagnes at Veuve Clicquot, this wine will then age in the cellars for another three years. Veuve Clicquot Rich uniqueness relies on a specific dosage of 60g/l : a dosage especially imagined for Rich, in order to enhance the aromas of the blend.
Veuve Clicquot’s Cellar Master Dominique Demarville states that “sugar in champagne is like spices in a recipe : used correctly it can bring out specific aromas and play with flavors.”
The tasting
The signature Pinot Noir of the Veuve Clicquot style is given a new versatility with a higher dosage, while a greater presence of Meunier emphasizes fresh, fruity and luscious notes.
On the palate, citrus and floral notes combine perfectly with a dynamic freshness and creamy finish. Showing exceptional roundness and sweetness, the wine is then magnified by the presence of thoughtfully selected ingredients to create the perfect balance.
The ritual : clicquology
Veuve Clicquot Rich was created to be combined with a selection of ingredients, leading to a distinctive tasting experience. It’s all about freshness and silkiness. The wine team indeed carefully picked ingredients that would enhance the aromas of the wine: cucumber, grapefruit zest, pepper, celery, or tea – all to be enjoyed on the rocks.
